I dunno. I think that the Metro Gang Strike Force cops will get away with the shootings, and the roustings, and probably the destruction of evidence and whatever they did with the cars... ... but taking the CI money that, by law, they're only allowed to spend on bribing their confidential informants ... and using it for buying doughnuts for themselves? Of the few articles at the star tribune about this issue that have allowed public comments, one theme keeps popping up that this is somehow political, with Stanek, Fletcher, and Campion locked in some sort of behind the scenes battle. Anyone have any information on this? |

I think he's done a good job as HennCo sheriff, and a particularly good one (not perfect) on the permit stuff, which is where I focus my attention. He likes to see his face on TV and get near microphones, but I can't criticize the latter very strongly, as I'm just that way myself. Fletcher, on the other hand, is a liar. Fact, not just opinion. And Commissoner <s>Clouseau</s> Campion is, at best, an arrogant idiot, as he demonstrated in what is, at best, bumbling incompetence in not going through the usual processes when he got a preview of the Legislative Auditor's report -- anybody but a crook or a boob would have, among other things, had the MGTF HQ locked down to preserve the evidence, as well as hit the perps with search warrants. (Strong language to follow.) I'm trying very hard to be fair on all of this, though, which is why I've been fairly restrained in my praise of Chris Omodt, who took over as the leader of the Strike Force -- while his public record looks good, I think that going beyond that would be premature, at best. |

The Captain does seem to be a rising star within the HCSO. Being the son of former HCSO Sheriff Don Omodt - who I've heard was rather respected himself - probably doesn't hurt. I'm a little surprised Stanek would support someone who could later challenge him for Sheriff, perhaps Stanek plans on being moved on to something else soon. Thanks for the background info Joel! |
