I'm trying not to laugh. Man, maybe I need to go to sensitivity training. I am so jaded.

But, the attempt to save the life of the 29-year-old officer was unsuccessful. Police say the sergeant and another officer went to the off-duty officer's home late Thursday after receiving a report that he may be suicidal. The off-duty officer eventually put a gun to his head, causing the sergeant to shoot him in the leg. But, as the off-duty officer fell to the ground, he took his own life. He was pronounced dead at his home. The sergeant is on administrative leave. The shooting is being reviewed by the Milwaukee County district attorney's office.

agree..........we have someone needing help and the sarge did what he could think of to stop the tragedy. The sarge will be second guessing his actions for a long time.
Lose-lose situation

Too bad they did not have a sniper to shoot gun out of his hand like that video on the net.

You have to shoot the arm, not the leg.
You might have a chance if you shoot the leg on the same side that he's holding the gun on... That way he might try to grab the leg in pain with the closest hand.

Yeah, there's no critical arteries in the leg or arm.
Don't police sergeants get at least some rudimentary training in suicide de-escalation?
Give some guys a hammer and every problem they encounter looks like a nail.

Taser might have caused a reflexive spasm that would have caused the poor 29 yo to jerk his trigger finger Wouldn't want that to happen, so obviously Sgt. needs to go to guns.
I wonder if the officer was suicidal because he saw IAD coming his way, or because he couldn't go on covering for officers who need IAD to come their way.
If only MPD had an IAD that was concerned with justice.

or...
Maybe he'd reached his limit of pulling dead people out of cars at accidents, or interviewing teenage rape victims, or seeing the same crooks get out of jail over and over, or maybe his family left him cause he was never home. Maybe his mother died. Maybe his child.
Please stop intimating that all cops are crooks and assholes. We aren't.
I am sure there are yellow pages chock-full of attorneys in the metro area who would be willing to look into your claims against the MPD. If it were me in your situation, I would consider this route, as it seems you're being blown off by various officials.

Wow. Sounds dangerously dumb. The truth probably involves panic on the part of the sergeant. Panic, as we know, is the enemy of rational thought. Hopefully someone is keeping an eye on the sergeant right now.
I wish people would get help when they started having life-interrupting depressive episodes. Suicide isn't a solution and it's okay for real men to get help.

"Put the gun down from your head. Failure to comply means I will have to kill you."
I would imagine that their POST training did not cover such circumstances.
