A friend and I had just purchased 300 rounds of ammo, some targets, and a bunch of gun cleaning supplies at Gander. We then proceeded to make our way to Bills to use all of this gear. I was carrying my G26, and he had his brand new 12 guage laying in the back seat, in a soft case.

We joked about what the Police might think if they pulled us over.

Wouldn't you know it, we got snagged for speeding near 42nd ave!

Pulse goes up, eyes get wide, we are silent.

Conversation goes a little something like this:

Officer: "do you know how fast you were going"?
Driver: "apparently a little TOO fast"
Driver: "I'm not familiar with this area and didn't realize what the speed limit was"
Officer: "Where are you from"?
Driver: "Bloomington, but we were just heading to Bills to shoot. By the way we are both permit holders"
Officer: "are your firearms properly cased"?
Driver: "Yes"
Officer: "License, registration, and permit card please"

Officer goes back to his car. Returns in less than 5 minutes.

Officer: "Please keep the speed down, and enjoy your shoot, guys"

Result - Extremely polite officer. NO TICKET! (Thank you Officer!)
US - both wide eyed and in dis-belief that we didn't get a ticket. (clocked at 42 mph in a 30 or 35 mph zone)

We then went to Bills and had a 'blast'!

It was going southish on West Broadway.
You come out of Crystal going south, then you pass an old looking Book and Bible store then on the left side of the road just before the bridge is a crusty old domed looking outdoor bbq or fireplace structure. The Officer was sitting off the road in that little picnic area there scanning traffic.

I believe we were west of 100 at the time....

Can you picture the area now? I do remember from the past seeing police sitting in that area looking for speeders coming into Robbinsdale.

As for what police department it was, I didnt process that information during the stop.

I know exactly where you are talking about, You were in Robbinsdale, if it was Crystal you would have gotten a ticket. The State Troopers also hide in there sometimes looking for speeders on 100.

How bad are the Crystal guys? My buddy just got a house next to the police station and I'm up there all the time.

I know that they often set up speed traps with several squads on hand to write tickets.

I have seen them tag 4 people in about 20 minutes with 2 squads on 36th ave. It is a good bet if you are speeding in Crystal you will have a discussion with the men (and women) in blue.
