I got a citation for speeding with a large fine attached, but actually wanted to compliment both the deputy on his professionalism and courtesy and the department for offering a traffic safety class as part of an alternative penalty. It was a sobering experience and some lessons that I'll take to heart. I do appreciate being slowed down and especially being stopped where I was before I could get going faster. I didn't ask but from the grip it looked like the deputy was carrying an XD. Bonus points for that.

Were you carrying at the time, and if so, how was that part of the stop treated?

Glad to hear that you were treated so well. If you're so inclined, a letter to the sheriff detailing the professionalism of his deputies will no doubt be much appreciated, and will be included in the officer's personnel file for future promotion consideration.

My gun was actually cased in the trunk (I do have a MN permit to carry but passed through Wisconsin so I had to do that) but I have no doubt that the deputy would have handled that well too. Good idea on the letter--I actually do plan on that.
