Officer Goes Extra Mile for Family's Safety

A couple thanks a Covington Police officer for the gift of safety.

The officer couldn't bear to watch the couple drive away with their three-month-old daughter in a car riding on old, unsafe tires.

Flashing lights and police officers, two clues you may have done something wrong.

For a young family in Latonia Wednesday, a police officer stopping them was like a prayer being answered.

"I cried," said Mary Stone, got new tires from police officer. "I was a basket case when he said that."

The officer saw Mary Stone, her fiance, Matt, and their new baby, Madaline, sitting in their Dodge Neon at a Covington gas station Wednesday morning. Tires on their car were so bad, the tread was coming off one of them.

So the officer had to warn them what they already knew.

"For the safety of your family, you know you need to get this tire replaced," said Stone. "It's about to blow out at anytime."

"I said, 'actually that's really funny I am about to go up there right now to get it done,'" said Matt Marrison, Stone's fiance.

But Mary and Matt saved for a month, coming up with the money for just two new tires.

Covington Police Officer Keith Parker couldn't drive off knowing this precious cargo was in danger every time the car was on the road.

"He says, 'I'll make you a deal. Meet me up there at 1:30 and you buy two, I'll buy two,'" said Stone.

"He told the guys at the place, 'I don't know who this guy is,'" said Morrison. "He says, 'I know he's got a baby in the car and that baby needs to be safe, so I'm going to do this for him.' I want him to know our family greatly appreciates him, and that there's no way we could ever repay him for what he did for us."

Covington Police tell us Officer Parker is a 20 year veteran with a history of good deeds and a history of keeping them quiet.

This one, he's getting a pat on the back. Four new tires, even the baby was all smiles.

"Oh, she loved it," said Stone. "She says, 'mommy thank you so much for making me safe!'"

The couple says they will work to save up the $118 to repay Officer Parker. If he refuses to accept the money, they say they will donate it to a charity that can help another needy family.

it's hard enough to find genuine officers, real no BS people that do the job solely for the safety of others. this raises the bar and gives an example for others to emulate.

give this guy something to pin on his uniform!!!

I'm sure we could write to Admiral Bling to see if he has any spare flare.

Officer Parker deserves a genuine pat on the back. :D

That is a fantastic story! People should do this more often.

I have no doubt there are people(officers) out there doing this, but this article strikes me as a fake. The way it reads, it's almost over the top. Maybe written by an aspiring writer/secretary who works at that department.

I think it's real. Pakrat, you have a suspicious mind. :)
