Cobb, the Dakota County Sheriff signs every permit he issues.

Several sheriffs don't, the line on the permit says "Issuing Sheriff" and the sheriff's name is just block printed in.

I guess I spoke to soon - nice surprise waiting in the mailbox when I got home...

Now I just want to know whose bright idea it was to change the cards? Old one was stiff plastic, exact same size as my DL. New one is a laminated paper card that is about 1/8" longer in each direction, and no longer fits in any of the slots in my wallet...

yea, I had to trim mine down a bit to get it to fit. looks like crap now, but at least it will stay in the wallet.

Mine arrived today as well (Day 34). And yeah, I was pretty annoyed by the extra laminate. Had to trim it down to get it to fit. Probably Sheriffs way of getting a cheap dig in.

Got my permit today, 20 days since I applied, not bad I think considering I moved to MN 2yrs ago and I assume they had out-of-state records to check...

30 Days Later,
No permit.

Called today, and got "The approving supervisor is out sick", she went on to say that she probably would not get it out in the mail until Monday.

I asked why they waited so long to approve it, and I got the seemingly typical "2 to 3 times the normal applications" excuse...

It seems that 2-3 times the normal applicants has been going on for quite some time... How long does it take to redefine "normal"?

Call and ask for the sheriff. Remind him of the law and ask him to get his ass down there and approve the damn things. It's his job.

Oh, you could be polite, I suppose.

Fan-spankin'-tastic. That's a whole lot more revenue, so they should have no problem throwing some extra staff at the problem.

I called today, (Been calling every day this week) and the lady was very rude.

Quote:
I kindly asked if my permit had been mailed yet.
She sighed and said, "The approving officer is out"

I replied, "OK, So when will will you be sending it?"
Her reply was, "Hopefully Monday"
Me: "Hopefully??"
Her, snappy voice: "Well, after it's approved, the Sheriff needs to sign it, then if I get it early Monday, I can mail it then."

Me: "Well it is approved, since more than 30 days have gone by. So why do I need to wait for the 'Approving Officer' before the Sheriff signs off on it?"

Her: "Sir, The soonest I can have it out is Monday."

Me: "OK, Thank You"

Where can I complain about the sheriff's department to?

Strike that... I just spoke to Sherrif Gudmundson, who was very polite, apologized, and said he would sign it and get it out in the mail today.

He also said that they requested $$ in the budget to have another staffer on to handle the permits.
