I have lurked around here for about a year and finally took a class and applied for my permit. Dropped the application off on June 1 and the permit was in the mailbox today. I was totally shocked to see it that soon.

Just because someone IS a "Sheriff," doesn't mean they h-a-v-e to be a jerk.
They renewed my Washington state permit at the Sheriff's Office in Tacoma in less time than it took me to fill out the form.

My Arizona permit was three business days door to door, with an FBI fingerprint check. (Hand delivered on a Monday, in the mailbox late Thursday).
I'm apparently not the only one, either. From their website: http://www.dps.state.az.us/ccw/default.asp
2007
Congratulations to everyone in the Concealed Weapons Permit Unit on receiving the highly coveted Director's Unit Citation Award!
Imagine that. A CCW department that wins awards.

It is an option available to an elected Sheriff apparently.
