From Dan Gifford:
Quote:
Washington political professionals I know tell me the Obama transition
team is openly advocating either anti federal concealed carry
(CCW) legislation or an executive order that would accomplish the same
thing. Obama's opinion opposing CCW is certainly no secret:

"I am not in favor of concealed weapons. I think that creates a
potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during)
altercations."

WBEZ: You have advocated a federal ban on concealed carry laws.

Self-defense at home or outside the home - it's all just as bad to Mr.
Obama.
In 2004, he said he was "consistently on record and will continue
to be on record as opposing concealed carry," and that he'd back
"federal legislation that would ban citizens from carrying weapons,
except for law enforcement." Mr. Obama had already put that
anti-self-defense belief into action in 2001, voting against a state
Senate bill that would have allowed people who receive protective orders
- such as domestic violence victims - to carry firearms. Why? Because,
in Mr. Obama's world, "authorizing potential victims to carry firearms
would potentially lead to a more dangerous rather than less dangerous
situation … It was a bad idea and I'm glad it failed," he said.

I'm shocked -- shocked -- to find that the President Elect doesn't support our inalienable rights.

The day we see that, with 10 000 Americans participating in DC, is the day Tiananmen Square comes to America.

Perhaps that would even become the second shot heard round the world, and the beginning of the next American Revolution. (Though I admit that even I believe that to be unlikely.) At the very least it would show a lot of people who don't know otherwise that this isn't a free country.

CAVEAT: This country is more free than any other I know of on earth, but that does not make it a free country. It used to be, however, once upon a time.

You mean like this:

...Wow.

This is the first I've learned of this. I have to say, I'm speechless. Not surprised, entirely, but speechless. Thank you for providing me with that bit of history. I can't believe I have not heard of this incident, with all that I've learned about the Depression and US government history.

It just makes me shake my head when people do not understand the wisdom of The Posse Comitatus Act, and here we have a case in point! There is already a battle precedent! Incredible.

So tell me again, what was Bush's reasoning in repealing Posse Comitatus, especially with this historical playout already available? Is it to make the rest of the several States as safe as DC? That just burns me up.

On reflection, I think this incident is even more repugnant than even the internment of Japanese Americans during the second world war. And that's a high prize to top.

By the way, in an unrelated matter (and on the flipside of citizens getting the short end of the deal), this here is one of my favorites.

The Posse Comitatus, as I understand it, was one of the outcomes of the hung election of 1876. The Republicans got the presidency and the opposition got occupation forces out of the south and eventually the PC act.

yeah, it's a huge summation but It was a throw away comment someone much brighter than me made when we were discussing just how far back individual self reliance died at the hands of government programs (reconstruction? or earlier?)

The MSM got more exercised over foreigners killed in Tienanmen Square in Beijing (1989 - China) than it did about Americans killed and run out of town by the US Army in the Bonus March "Cleanup" in Washington, DC (1932 - USA).

No army is the friend of Liberty. At best they stand aside and are neutral.

Were you talking about something like standing armies in stable countries? Other wise I would hold that the American revolutionary army was pretty good for liberty.

Why is it, legislators who oppose the carrying of firearms for defense, insist on legislating themselves a loophole which enables them to carry?

Because they are just another form of only ones.

Also hypocrites.

Wait... I'm a bit confused here. Is open-carry ok then? I guess i'll have to start looking for a new holster.

If ordinary people shouldn't be able to have firearms for self-defense, particularly people known to be likely targets for attempted murder (e.g. women leaving their physically abusive spouses), politicians, including the president, should be subject to the same restrictions. And no fair using Secret Service. I'm sick of the rich and the powerful getting to live by a different standard. When they have to live and die by the same laws as the rest of us, I'll object a bit less to their attempts to disarm me.
