Wyoming Attorney General Withdraws Right-to-Carry Reciprocity With Fifteen States

Thursday, February 19, 2009

Please Contact the Attorney General Today!

In a drastic change from its longstanding policies, Wyoming will no longer recognize the Right-to-Carry permits of fifteen states. As of March 1, non-resident permit holders of these states will no longer be able to carry a firearm concealed for self-defense while visiting Wyoming. The sudden decision that these states' laws are not "similar" enough to Wyoming's to gain recognition comes directly from the office of Attorney General Bruce A. Salzburg (D) through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation. As a result, only eight states will be allowed reciprocity with Wyoming.

The intent of the original Right-to-Carry statute and the ensuing recognition law was to allow law-abiding individuals whose states’ standards were similar in nature to Wyoming to carry concealed there. With little to no problem since, Wyoming has been a stand out in allowing such freedoms to reign.

Since this session's legislative deadlines have passed to fix this statutorily, it is vital that NRA members and the pro-firearms community contact the Attorney General's office and respectfully ask that they honor the intent of the original Right-to-Carry laws and re-authorize the reciprocity arrangements with those fifteen states. Attorney General Salzburg can be reached by phone at (307) 777-7841 or fax at (307) 777-6869.

Squeeze trigger, BANG, repeat. Kind of boring, but I never cared for drama.
