If you have big hands you might want to try out a Para-Ordnance double stack 1911.

Some may say it isn't a "True 1911" but I like mine.

I love mine it hasnt gave me any problems at all with multiple diffrent types of ammo through it and the lda trigger is awesome if your into that. If your not into the para than i would go with the colt

I have a "True 1911" Model of 1911 U.S. Army manufactured in 1921.
But I still love my Para and still consider it a 1911.
With the specific models listed in the poll, I'd go for the Springfield. They are damn fine guns and for the price and the warranty I'd take one over a Colt.
Para-Ordnance also makes single stack models :D

To be honest, you'd be 'happy' with a 1911A1 from 'any manufacturer', but you'd be 'totally pleased' with ANY 1911A1 from SA. 8)

So where can I buy a new stainless full size "Springfield Loaded model" for $1000 or less - I'll buy it today. You did say "range of $650-$1000".

As I wrote in a different thread - I'm retiring in one month after 35 years at 3M Co. and I want to buy a nice stainless full size 1911 as a present from me to me so I'm asking for opinions.

H&H Guns in Prescott, WI they have a nice selection and both MN and WI FFL. They are a little higher pricewise than some which could be why they still have a couple Springfields in stock.

I have not heard of them but I'll check them out. I know the area as I used to live outside of River Falls in a prior wife - I mean life.
Thanks

Gander Mountain in Mankato has a SA Stainless Steel 'Loaded' in 9mm in their display counter.

They also have a couple Stainless "GI's" (in .45acp), on hand too.

They did have a few boxes of Remington .45 acp on the shelf too. I let them sit there though, as they wanted $40 for a 50 rd. box. :?

My hands are small but I've never had any problems handling my Para P12. It's my carry and BUG and BUG and, oh well, you get the idea.

I only have four of 'em, and I'm still trying to find something I don't like.

Besides the cost of feeding them.
