Amen. While there's some of the shoot-em-up-training-SWAT-wannabes who look down on either or both ("How are you going to do a Speed Rock from your pocket?") they're really, really missing the point.

I feel like there should be an alter call or something... maybe a coming out party.

Thanks Joel for converting me. :)

So if I feel the need to carry a pocket-holstered j-frame as well as a more traditionally holstered semiauto, does that make me a polytheist?

At least my plastic idol doesn't have a safety.

You won't ever catch me carrying a tool with that switch unless it's a long-gun, and then that switch will be permenantly stuck on FIRE.

I got lucky enough to live through the first mistake I made with a safety selector switch, and I don't plan on seeing if I can be that lucky a second time, especially considering that I was much better trained back then that I ever will be again.

This topic can be summarized as: Are small sized revolvers a viable tool for self-defence? Joel and Someone1980 say yes. I agree. I feel plenty armed with my 642 in a pocket holster.

We are in the business of defending ourselves, not being SWAT wanna-be's (thanks Joel). Most of our encounters will be the 1 - 4 person group of thugs.

If things change I'll adjust.

Even though I am a 1911 fanatic, Joel did convince me of the validity of the small pocket wheel gun. Thus, especially in the winter, I carry one in my left coat pocket (and Goalie it doesn't have an ON/OFF switch  ) thus no need for gloves or worry about drawing from under thick, bulky clothes.....so yes I have had a drink of the koolaid.......

I love it when a plan comes together.

I worship both plastic and metal semi's so the best of both worlds!

I do want to get a small wheel gun when the right one comes along. At the last gun show, I almost picked up a SS Smith with a bobed hammer with some great looking grips. I'll see if it is at the Hastings Armory on Saturday.

I just traded my K-frame 4" for a SXS but so my father-in-law had a good winter carry gun! He liked it so much he qualified with it. :)

My hope is that IF I have to draw, all 4 of them will see the gun and decide to find easier pickings.

A pocket revolver is a very valid idea. It's a great tool but that doesn';t mean it has to be the ONLY tool.

I like a pocket revolver. It works almost any time and makes a good supplement to my XD-9 semi. Better than nothing for sure, and after talking about it with HammAR a great backup / access gun in the winter when the layers might make getting to a strong side IWB more obvious / ominous / difficult.

Me, too. That said, I've spent quite a lot of time looking for real-life examples of survivable civilian self-defense shootings where five rounds wasn't enough. I've found a grand total of one.
