I am curious if anyone here has any experience with the Kel-Tec carbine in 9mm. Since it can come in a configuration that accepts Glock magazines, and is veryinexpensive, I am curious how it functions...reliability..fun factor etc. I need to find a better use for my 33 round Glock magazines

I bought one when they first came out. The integral safety lock did not function. Had to send it back for that. I like the idea of being able to fold it up but I couldn't get it to run reliably with factory Glock mags at the time. I hear they have been greatly improved upon since then. Sold it and bought a Olympic Arms 9mm upper for my AR that takes modified Sten Gun mags that is 100% reliable. Kind of expensive, though.

Actually Olympic Arms makes a dedicated AR rifle that will accept the Glock mags now. Once again, more expensive than the Kel-Tec.

I looked at them but went with a High Point 4095 carbine in 40S&W. It is very reliable, accurate and very good iron sights.

At Ktog.org, there have been some reliablity issues with some of the Sub 2000 in 9mm. Go there and check out posts for that area.

I would love to pick up a Kel-tec SU16 (223) folder which takes AR15 mags but folds down to about 24 to 28 inches.

I shot one (Glock Model) and was less than impressed. I am not a carbine kinda guy though, if I am going to carry something that size, it'll be my AK, NOT something that shoots a pistol round.

For the fun factor I'm sure it would be great, if you are actually gonna use it for self-defense, and it pains me to say this, look at the Hi-Point carbine. They are cheap, reliable, and accurate. Ugly as hell too, but they point well for me.

Ugly, yes, fun to shoot . . . yes. My father picked up a 9mm version with a red dot included. I had just gotten his red dot dialed in & the "charging handle" or frankenstein bolt that sticks out to the left of the bolt broke. It was a material defect in the bolt (that serves as a charging handle) and Hipoint made good on it.. . . like any gun it is good to give it some range time before setting it to defensive purposes. I do have to say it was fun to shoot, I did some dremmeling of the plastics seams & now it is exstremely comfortable. He picked up a Ruger MkIII 22/45 same day & that didn't need a bit of tweaking.
