Alrighty...I already have a 1911 (loaded champion) that I carry every day. I'd like to get something slightly smaller for more discreet carry.

Anyone have any suggestions for a pocket carry 45?
I like the 45 round, as well as having about 1500 rounds sitting here waiting.... I'd like to stick with one caliber.

Kahr?

Thanks
DD

Are you looking to stay with the 1911 format?

If you want to pocket carry something in a 1911 format, it would be hard to beat the extra safety aspect of the LDA Para.

Smith and Wesson makes a .45 snubby. Kind of -- read: very -- spendy. Alternately, if you're fond of the 1911, there's the Kimber Ultra Carry -- I like mine a lot. (Kind of big for pocket carry, but it's doable.)

I'm not looking to stay with a 1911. Although I love mine, I'd like to find something a little less spendy.

I ment to put Kahr, not Para. (Feeding my daughter and tired while typing isn't a good combo)

too bad the Kahr person didn't show for Bill's Shooter show. I believe Bill's North has some in their rental case (call ahead).

If I had one, you'd be welcome to meet and try it.

heck, anyone want to try out the Taurus PT 1911 that followed me home?

Thread hijack? what hijack? (PM with requests ... line forms to the right)

LOL I was enjoying the conversation! 8)

Here's the other thing. 2 times ago, when I went shooting, my 1911 stopped locking back on the last round on 2 of my magazines. Ironically both brand new kimber mags (I know I know...they were a gift). But on the other 2 mags I have it was working fine. So I cleaned everything, took appart the magazines, checked them over. I found nothing "wrong." The last time I shot, I now have 3 magainzes that aren't locking back. (one of which is a factory mag)

It appears the locking lever that is pushed up by the magazine follower is only going about half way up into the locking lug on the slide. I'd like to get another carry weapon before I find out what Springfield would like to do. I'm sure they will say everything is fine...and charge me for it...

Those 45 acp revolvers have a lot of merit. They use moon clips which load faster than those jiggly speed loaders. They are a bit rare however.

It almost seems like you need to buy a 4" and have the barrel shortened. The problem is though, the ones you can find are N-frames and not as conducive to pocket carry.

I have been considering a Bulldog in 44 spc, but the factory SD loads are anemic compared to what you can get in 45 acp.

Someone who knows 1911's better than I could probably tell you more but ... are slide lock levers interchangable? or not? Would Springfield send you one and RMA the old one? Would Ryan or someone at Bill's North be willing to take a look at it and offer advice? How much is the part to buy? Would a spare make sense anyway?

yeah, yeah ... more questions than answers.

Critical Magazine factors for the slide lock to function on any autoloader are:
Are the mag springs of the correct strength?
Are the followers of the correct shape?
Are the followers rising high enough in the magazine?
Are the feed lips the correct shape?
Is the lock notch on the magazine in the correct place in the mag body?

There are a few others, but if the slide locked back with other mags, these will probably be moot.

Have fun investigating.
