Or you could do what I did and add another pistol to your collection.I find that the 638 is much more accurate in the single action mode than the 642 in double.

I'm going to take a slightly different tack here; free country. Seems to me that if the 642 isn't pointing well for you instinctively, it's best to change grips so that it does point well than to try to train your way out of it...

So what kind of grips could you suggest that would not ruin the 642's pocket carry capability?

Some good points made from what I've experinced...

1. I have noticed the heavy trigger pull affects my aim, so I try to dry fire it often....

2. I would not have noticed it as easy without the crimson trace.

3. I think it fits in my pocket just fine with the CT grips, though i do suspect the are a bit larger than the "stock" grips. (bought the gun with the CT on it from S&W)

Selurcspi held a revolver class after breakfast. There were four of us; Pat Cannon (who looks younger in real life), HammAR, a 3 gentleman whose name escapes me (sorry) and myself.

The class was quite informative. It include gun safety, shooting fundamentals, stance, sighting, how to hold your revolver, how to press the trigger, follow-thru and a bunch of other good info.

I really needed this class. Two things I came away with were 1) shooting revolvers is different than shooting pistols and 2) shooting revolvers is slightly more difficult than shooting pistols.

After class we were off to BPR. Bottom line Selurcspi's techniques radically improved my shooting my 642. I would highly recommend his class.

I would also be interested in a class on pistol fundamentals some time.

Jeremiah.........................

and for those of you in the CoTAR, I would highly recommend his class.....

but for me, it once again convinced me to stick with a 1911 as a main pistol......:P

Slurppie can probably address this far better than I can, but one thing that I learned in his class on wheel guns: If you are looking for a trigger job to replace proper trigger control, shooting technique and make it shoot like an auto, you are wasting your money........... Witness, lumbering buffalo started this thread with concerns and ended up with "Bottom line Selurcspi's techniques radically improved my shooting my 642", all without a trigger job..................now I will shut up and go back to my 1911.... :P

I can shoot my snubs better DA than I can SA. I tend to flinch setting off heavy .357 loads SA in the snubs which I avoid in DA mode. With my big hunting revolvers, I shoot better SA. It's all mental

A smooth pulling trigger without any catch is much more important than the poundage.

I noticed something a little unusual when firing my 642; There seems to be a little break in the action when I pull the trigger. I can pull it almost all the way, and it seems to hit a flat spot, like I'd cocked the hammer manually. Then it's a very light pull to fire it.

I can also release the trigger slowly (having held it the entire time) and the cylinder will rotate again as the trigger goes forward.

Lest you think this is a malfunction, it doesn't interfere with the cycling of the pistol, and I don't try to do it every time, since I probably wouldn't be able to under stress if I ever needed to. But is an interesting quirk, and certainly helps me shoot targets better when take my time.

Anyone else ever notice this?

Is this "staging" the trigger? Mine does the same thing except it's a Taurus 85.

Almost all revolvers do this, if you take my revolver class you learn all about how to practice it and use it.

As much as I hate to admit it....Selurcspi does know what he is talking about. I got much better with my 642 after a trip to the range with him. Take his class. You won't be dissapointed.

I did not say this....

I was not here....
