I have:
XD 9mm 3"
XD 9mm 5"
XD .40 S&W 5"
XD .45 5" full size
XD .45 4" compact
I started with the 3" 9mm. Not much snap. One can shoot it out to about 25 yards and still be accurate. Very sturdy.
the .45 5" full size has too long of a grip to conceal well. The grip is also too wide around to fit in my hand well. I don't shoot it all that well. Pretty sturdy.
The .45 4" compact (they also have a 5" compact) conceals very well (just as well as the 3" 9mm). It has a smaller diameter grip then the full size, thus fits in my hand better, and I shoot it a lot better. The plastic in the grip is too think for my taste, but mine has held up well so far. Got it when it came out.
