I am probably going to be purchasing a new pistol soon. However, there are a few requirements, it has to have a decocker and hammer (not my choice). Which leaves out the gun I'd like to get, the Springfield XD in .45.

My choices are:

1.) Sig
2.) Beretta
3.) HK
4.) Smith & Wesson (not M&P, no decocker)


I have very small hands, and all of the Sig's that I can choose are bigger gripped, so not good for me. I am looking for something in .45

So I guess, does anyone have any knowledge/review or use with the new HK45?

Being a Taurus owner, I have to suggest the new Taurus 24/7 OSS. It was designed for the military bid that was put off indefinitely.

I'm not sure of grip width, but it DOES have a decocker.

Steve has a couple of HK45's One which used to be mine, I sold mine because it was too big to manage. I have no trouble with double stack Para's but the HK was very long from the rear of the grip to the trigger and on the other side from the reag of the grip to the secondary controls.

I'm assuming that your employer is laying down the requirements so this would be a duty gun. I assume, therefore, that you and your weapon will be outside in all kinds of weather. I would look at S&W stainless. S&W's single-stack 45's are reasonably sized. 4566TSW is an all-stainless SA/DA .45 8+1. Shooting .45 in a heavier gun is more comfortable for some.

Personally, if I had the money I would opt for the Sig 220 DAK, but I don't have to stand outside in all kinds of weather.

The new HK's are supposed to have some more human sized grips. The bore-axis is still fairly high for my taste.

Look at the single-stack S&W's.

It might've helped if I'd read the original post a little more carefully.

I haven't fired the new HK45 yet, but it is slightly smaller than a fullsize HK USP45. The HK45 is 7.52" overall length and 1.42" wide. It (the HK45) has interchangable backstraps, so it could be configured for a smaller hand. There is also an HK45 compact version that is 7.2" overall and 1.42" wide.
I have many flavors of HK's and have found them to be very reliable firearms.

I'm a sig person, so I'd suggest maybe looking into a change in grip that makes it more comfortable, if that's a possibility. I know that my 226 grip is just ever so slightly on the large size (but still ok) for my hand, and my hands aren't huge. If I replaced the thick wood grips with thinner hogues, it would be a better fit for something like competition shooting.

I've shot a number of the HKs, but not the HK45. I found that from model to model they vary a lot in comfort and perceived recoil etc., even in the same caliber. I'd say see if you can shoot one before you buy it, of course.

As much as I love my Beretta, the stock 92FS wouldn't work if you have small hands. The thing is a beast, especially with the Hogue grips I installed on mine.

The Beretta Vertec models might be worth a look. I think Gunstop still had the used-but-like-new .40 in stock last week.

If - you are not set on a .45 then consider the Sig 239 - in 9mm or .40 My wife has smaller hands and the grips on my Sig 229 are too much for her - she really likes the feel of the 239 due to the single stack mag. All the other features you asked for are included in the 239 and Hey! it a SIG!

What would be a better Law Enforcement caliber, .357 Sig or .40 Smith & Wesson?

I want to go the range soon, and have an idea of 3 or 4 guns I want to try.
