Maybe the Congress should pass a law that apologizes for the existence of the United States of America. We can cover everything in one fell swoop.

"Undoubtedly some think the Second Amendment is outmoded in a society where our standing army is the pride of our Nation, where well-trained police forces provide personal security, and where gun violence is a serious problem. That is perhaps debatable, but what is not debatable is that it is not the role of this Court to pronounce the Second Amendment extinct."--Justice Scalia

Of course any apology without a letter of resignation looks insincere. I think African Americans should be as offended as this Celtic-American. Yup, letters of resignation or public humiliation for being insincere about the badness of slavery. . .. those are the two options I propose for Congress. No third way. Hey, has anybody ever thought of writing up a resignation letter for a public official (blank signature line), mailing it, a pen, and a card reading "thank you for your service, please sign"

It may well come to that. meanwhile, humbling requesting that they do the right thing (resign) seems to be a better, less volitile direction.
