Try a toilet plunger. That's worked for me before for stopped up sinks and drains. Use a short, quick, repetitive stroke when the water is standing in the tub. No guarantees but it's free to try.

I tried you suggestion last night and the drain seemed to be flowing better. Sure enough, no standing water this morning. I owe you a beverage, sir. Please don't tell my wife I used a toilet plunger in our tub.

I actually use two plungers, one for the drain and one to seal the overflow hole.
At my house it's usually army men clogging up the drain. When it's real bad I have to use a wire and go in through the cleanout plug. I once retrieved an army man so covered with hair I thought I had found a miniature sasquatch.

I have a very "Long Forehead" (it is quite high). The tub is always clogged with hair much longer than Mine. Find a drain cleaner that eats hair, put a bunch of it in and turn on the Exhaust fan. Let the faucet drip for the night or day if your out of the house. Some Acids eat hair and will do the job more Efficiently, But I won't say which or describe how to use them. Depending on how your drain is set up, This one is easy as the top screws off and you can pick the hair out, also an easy Trap available from the basement.

I've found those little silicone drain covers with the suction cup feet work quite well for keeping hair out of the drain. They're a buck or three at the likes of Wally World or Home Despot.
If you don't like taking a tissue and cleaning them off, replace them every once in awhile.
(This after you've cleaned it because it's clogged again)
