This week FLEW by, and I have tomorrow off.
I've got a fever, and the only prescription is <s>more cowbell</s> dead deer.

I'll be out there. Especially happy that my season got extended from two days to a full nine days.
Can't wait. This week was already dragging. Then I was informed last night that the farmers are taking corn out in the area I'm hunting. I've been giggling like a school girl since.

The weather is saying rain friday, rain/snow on sat, snow on sun. Temps high ~40.
It'll certainly be interesting.I hope the rain keeps them in the trees with me, and the temp stays warm so they move. I am already dreading the mud.

I'll be heading up to the deer shack tomorrow morning. I plan on staying until I get a deer or two, or I get sick of it, or the season ends.
Nice to be retired.

If I hunt it will be muzzleloader. I am not comfortable on public land with the number of hung-over hunters out there.

I strongly prefer to hunt on private land, with people who I trust to be safe; I'm not sure I would hunt on public land again during the regular season, and I definitely wouldn't be looking forward to it with the same eagerness.

This weekend is my Christmas. I am fortunate to hunt on private land with one other group; it is a situation where we all pretty much know where everyone else hunts - VERY EXCITED -

Sadly, I'm not going this year.
On a good note, the gun shop has my SKS done and I can pick it up tomorrow after work.
I just ordered 2 more cases of ammo for it this afternoon.

Well, was going out to south dakota this weekend to pheasant hunt with my dad but he said his cousin called and they are gettin some nasty weather. If we scratch the pheasant hunting ill just go deer hunting instead. We usually go that second weekend at some land we own and i usually end up shooting something nice. This weekend will be at some other land we own and ive never been out there during the first weekend, should be interesting.
Im hoping that I didnt shoot this years buck last year. My father and I both didnt receive a doe permit. Gotta shoot a buck this year and they are hard to find around the land that we own.
edit: wierd that we didnt get a doe permit. out of the past 5 years ive gotten 5 doe permits, this year not so lucky.

...ah, the doe permit lottery. Brings back some great memories! Coming from Duluth, getting a doe permit was on the same level as winning the Power Ball...and forgetting to submit on time was a cardinal sin.
Now we hunt in Mora...get your buck-tag and up to 4 management tags per person. My dad lives in Florida now; this still drives him crazy every year I tell him about it.

Ronin069: Good luck hunting. I think we are seeing the last of our bonus tags. Wolf population is high north of 23 and working their way south. It was unusual to even see a deer road-kill this year north of Mora or Ogilvie.
I'm hearing stories of a lot more guys scouting the public land and requesting permission on the private lands around the area. It got too expensive to go 'way up-north' for the big bucks and the area may be over run with new hunters this year.
But Saturday should be good. Wet leaves so we can get in quiet, maybe even a little snow to see better. Any time a hunter is in the woods, it's a great day!
Good luck,
Tex

The wolf population near me got the mange last year so hopefully those uninvited hunters will be fewer in number.
Mange is usually caused by overpopulation, yet they re-listed them as endangered. hmmmm
