I finished up my class a few weekends ago. I havent had time to get to the downtown Hennepin Sheriff office yet, is there any chance that I can file it at the sheriff depot in Spring Park/Navarre? i'm guessing no, but hey..

Your instincts are correct. You need to go downtown.

yeah, I kinda thought so. Since I drive by the lake sheriff every day, it sure would have been handy to be able to do it there.

Welcome to the forum. Where did you take your class? How was it?

IIRC, Hennepin Co is still doing Permits in the Grain Exchange. You could call their info # and confirm.
I ASSUME (we know how bad that is) that you would get a new permit just like a replacement permit at the same place:
http://www.hennepinsheriff.org/investig ... andgun.asp
Quote: Replacement of Lost/Stolen Permit Cards In the case of a lost or stolen handgun-carry permit, a duplicate permit may be obtained for a fee of $10.00. The application for a duplicate permit must be presented in person at: 400 South 4th Street Suite 600 Grain Exchange Minneapolis, MN 55415 Contact Information sheriff.gunpermit@co.hennepin.mn.usPermit Hotline at (612) 348-8008.

It is not in their interest to make this process "handy".
Now whether that's their best interest or not is a whole other conversation.

Plane Cents, Joe Penaz
I liked the class. My only 'complaint' was that the class size was huge. But I did take it post-Obama election, so I understand why it was huge.

WOW. 100+ students in a single carry class. That must've been very busy.
I can see how it could be done but cannot convince myself it could be done well. I've never sat in on one of Joe's classes but I wonder about the Q&A and completeness of understanding of each student. I can see how details get missed but would wonder what else got lost in the translation from one instructor to 100 students. After a certain size, you lose touch with the individuals in the class and they become just an audience. How did they manage the range portion?

The largest class I have had has been 28. It was too large. I will try to keep my classes less than 25. The quality of my class is more important to me than the quantity of students. I wish I could handle more and keep the same value in my class but I do not know how. One thing that I have also noticed is that my classes of less than 6 are not quite as good either. Maybe I am too fussy.

My dad took his original class with Joe Penaz, and liked it. Then he went through Joel's class with a friend. When I decided to get mine he suggested Joel's hands down. It was way more informative, and personal. I have also heard that Joe has spoken of a couple of accidental discharges in the recent past at his house.

the Q&A part went fine. the class took a little longer than it was supposed to, but I would expect it too with that many people. He didnt leave anyone's questions unanswered. The range portion was done in sets of 7 people. It was cold out anyway, so those not shooting just hung out inside until it was their turn.
