If I understand correctly, "they" cannot restrict anyway. Nice to see they are aware of that, or agree with, as stated in their policy. Hopefully this will avoid confusion during encounters with Three Rivers Park District (rapidly expanding) police department.

Quote:
Persons who possess a valid Minnesota permit, or a valid permit from another state which is recognized in Minnesota; may carry, hold, keep, store, or possess a pistol within the Park District lands, facilities, and buildings to the extent permitted by Minnesota law. Employees or volunteers when acting in the course and scope of their employment or duties are prohibited from carrying, holding, keeping, storing, or possessing a pistol within Park District lands, facilities, and buildings.

I'll certainly agree that it's nice to see the recognition of the carry permit, but to put in their rules and regulations that permit holders can carry at the park makes as much sense as saying we can chew gum at the park.

Their statement is also redundant...telling us that we can do something to the extent that it's legal. The sentence could be reduced to:

"Persons may carry, hold, keep, store, or possess a pistol to the extent permitted by Minnesota law"

and it would say the same thing. Too bad about their employees and volunteers. That would prevent me from ever volunteering there.

I guess I'm nitpicking here and I should be glad that there's something in black & white in the event that the issue comes up with the TRPD while I'm there.

I agree Lenny, A simple "state trumps district" statement should be enough to get the dogs off your heels. +1 as well on the coment about volunteers. I think there are a few volunteer organizations that have now reverted to a don't ask, don't tell policy after a previous "No guns" policy found them short of volunteers.

Can their police dept demand to see your permit, like any city officer could? Do they have the same power?

Employees is pretty straight forward. State law specifically allows employers to set that limit as a term of employment.

I wonder what punative action they could take against a volunteer :?:

A cut in pay, or perhaps a severe tongue lashing.

It's not. They are not allowed to ban ANYONE from having a gun stored in the car.

I should've been more clear in my post, but Andew seemed to clairify my point. :)
