To all of you that didn't make it... you missed a good shoot!

I have a few pictures and videos, not much I'll post them up later when I'm not so tired.

I had a great time and dragged out a whole pickup load of ironmongery; had a lot of fun and got a good workout and a pretty good sunburn.

I met some fine folks and got to shoot a great little home built 10-22 derived bullpup rifle. Beautiful workmanship!

Got to blow off some Tannerite as well.

Ya'll should have been there!

Thanks to farmerj for hosting it!

It was fun, I really wish I could have stayed later. And I really wanted to see the tannerite go off.

It was quite nice to go into work reaking of gunpowder and clp too, hehehe.

Greg was the highlight of the day for many folks that like to make big boom! Belt feds...tannerite...all great folks sharing their wares. Ah, beautiful weather....great toys.... what is not to like! There were shooters at least as young as 6 and a few that are clearly in the AARP eligible category.

FarmerJ is thinking about a Fall get together also...make more BOOM.... :)

Count me in!

I'll bring the bowling ball mortar.

My cousin's kid put this one together from a shoot we had last march.

That brought a big smile to my face...I wonder how many folks will "get" that great pun

FarmerJ could not have scripted a better weather day (well, maybe just a tad less sun as I too burn easily and will spend the next few days looking like a walking beet ! ) It is a very nice facilty where people could shoot (safely !) at different locations but still see and hear ( and in some cases FEEL) what was going on with other shooters.

Two dads brought their sons with that had not shot before, a 12 yr. old and a 16yr old. It was fun to see what they liked to shoot vs. what I "thought" they might like to shoot. The kids were very attentive to safety and the reward of huge smiles on the faces was very gratifying.

If FarmerJ can get another one set up, I hope we'll do the NRA First Steps again...it was a fun way to introduce the kids (and one of the dads was a new shooter too) to the fun.

Actually, one of the dads asked a philosophical question ..."What is the fun of shooting guns?" That was asked very early in the introduction part of the mini-class, before he had done any shooting. Now, we all have our reasons for enjoying shooting, and sometimes it is hard to articulate the "why". But, after starting the shooting and trying the many models and styles that people brought and were so gracious to share, the "why" was evident. Heck, if if you answer the questions "because it just is!" ...that is a good enough reason. Plus...as a dad...seeing the huge smile on your son's face is, well, priceless! (and fun!)

I am glad everyone had a good time this past weekend.

We had ages from 6 to 60+ shooting. .22 LR to 81MM mortar and tannerite.

Nothing like BOOM.

Tannerite is cool, but nothing like that .50 BMG.

Will be looking to plan another Mid-late Sept, Early Oct.

my thanx as well to farmerj and phorvick: for hosting and for teaching. an outstanding day and experience. my brother in law and nephew gained much from the class, the camaraderie and the shooting. they were shocked at the willingness of everyone offering their guns to shoot and pitching in with advice and pointers on safety and technique. we'll be at the next, too. i believe we shall be making a recon mission to sportsman warehouse in the near future.

a special thanx to jac714 for the timed drill and draw advice. caleb wants to try the timed drill next time.

Good stuff, Jon! I really liked the videos. I'm kicking myself for not making it out. Great people, fun toys; can't beat that. I vow to be there next time.

This was a great day of shooting. Thanks to everybody, especially farmerj and phorvick! I finally got some names into my head of faces I've known for a while.

Here's a couple photos I took.

My son Ben with phorvick's Tommy gun:

And Ben again, admiring JFettig's rather amazing bullpup .22 project:

Next to upload the video of me shooting Greg's .50 BMG AR!
